After‑school drama clubs: Nurturing creativity across our district
As part of our commitment to reaching isolated communities across the Winchester district, Play to the Crowd offers exciting after‑school drama clubs for children in school years 1 – 6.
Delivered by our dedicated Playmakers team, these sessions provide a safe, supportive, and empowering environment where every single voice is valued. We give children the space to make new friends, take creative risks, and discover their own unique voice.
Gave me such confidence
Practical and inspiring sessions
Our drama clubs are designed to be highly interactive and fun. We don't just teach acting; we encourage children to use their imaginations, collaborate with their peers, and bring their own creative ideas to life.
Through our weekly sessions, participants explore:
- Creative games and storytelling
- Improvisation and character creation
- Devising original ideas and working with scripts
- Performance techniques and stage confidence
Alongside developing performance skills, our young people build vital life skills — including boosted confidence, communication, teamwork, and self-expression — helping them grow both on and off the stage.
Going into schools is a brilliant initiative and exposes children who wouldn't normally have the opportunity or inclination to take part
The year ahead: From classroom to the festival stage
We guide our young groups through a structured, exciting year of creative growth:
- Autumn & spring terms: Our young people dive into script work, practicing a play that has been carefully selected and adapted for their specific age group. At the end of the spring term, they share their hard work by performing the piece for their parents during a regular session.
- Summer term: The focus shifts to a much larger project. The children collaborate with other drama clubs from across the region to co-create an original performance for Hat Fair, our internationally renowned outdoor arts festival.
The group has given confidence and opportunity to my child which would be difficult without the charity and support
Where we currently run
We are proud to partner with local education hubs. We currently run our after-school drama clubs in the following schools:
- Wickham Primary School
- Oliver's Battery Primary School
- Barton Farm Primary Academy
