Theatre Royal Winchester and the streets of Winchester get a makeover with bold new artwork

Sprawling down the exterior of our historic building and across the tarmac below, Inside Outside: Art on the Street was created to do exactly that — bring the inside outside — celebrating the colour, imagination and creativity audiences experience on our stage at Theatre Royal Winchester.

Designed to brighten the front of our theatre and offer a vibrant welcome to visitors, the artwork draws inspiration from our Edwardian‑style auditorium. It includes colourful depictions of our seats, the proscenium arch, stage lighting and the warm tones of the performance space. If you're passing by, why not stop and take a closer look?

Thank you

We are hugely grateful to the award-winning Pea Green Design Studio in Winchester for bringing our ideas to life. With over 30 years of experience transforming public spaces with bold, bespoke designs, their work has been central to this project. We also extend our thanks to Winchester City Council and our generous private donors for making the installation possible.

The final stage of transformation

Inside Outside marks the final stage in the transformation of our bar and foyer areas, which began in 2019 to improve and modernise our building. During the spring and summer months, when our bi‑fold doors are open, we hope the new artwork will serve as a welcoming and colourful seating area for audiences, visitors and our local community. We look forward to seeing you outside!

Our vision as a charity is to delight and unite communities. We hope this artwork does just this. It is for everyone; for the whole crowd. Enjoy!
