Are you a local passionate director or writer looking to collaborate and create?

Join us for Unwritten, a unique new writing showcase event with a twist. 

This is your chance to exchange ideas, build relationships and create something extraordinary. 

Six writers and six directors will be selected and invited to come to our Creative Speed Dating evening on Monday 14 September, 7pm. 

At the event writers will pitch to directors an idea for a 10-15 minute monologue or duologue in a three-minute, speed-dating-style format.

What you'll need

  • Writers: Pitch or bring an example of a monologue/duologue.
  • Directors: Showcase your work through a portfolio or examples of past projects.

Programme overview

Unwritten: Creative Speed Dating Evening

When: Monday 14 September, 7pm – 9pm
Where: Atrium, Theatre Royal Winchester

Writers and directors meet, pitch ideas, and form partnerships for the project.

Nibbles and drinks will be provided. 

Unwritten: Scratch Night

When: Monday 2 November, 7pm- 9pm
Where: Atrium, Theatre Royal Winchester

Directors and writers are invited to present their monologue or duologue in a 10–15 minute slot in the Atrium space at Theatre Royal Winchester. Directors are responsible for casting and rehearsing their performances. One play will be selected as the winner.

Please note that the Atrium space has limited technical capabilities and space. We can provide a microphone, PA system and basic technical support if required. However, lighting options are minimal. Props should be kept to a minimum and no set pieces are permitted.

When: Monday 8 February, 7pm – 8pm
Where: Main House (studio-style), Theatre Royal Winchester

Unwritten winner

The winning piece will receive:

  • Rehearsal space at Theatre Royal Winchester.
  • Mentorship from our Take Part team to develop the script into a polished 45-minute piece.
  • The selected winners including the actors selected will have their travel expenses covered (up to 4 artists).
  • A showcase performance on Monday 2 November, on the Main Stage (please note that the stage will be configured in a studio-style format).

Who we're looking for

We welcome local writers and directors from all experience levels, whether you’re just starting out or an established artist, this is your chance to shine. 

This programme is ideal for directors and writers with a strong commitment to new writing. While we can’t promise love at first sight, we can guarantee inspiring and fruitful connections between theatre-makers!
